Cantamus Community Choir
The
choir, whose home is St. Margaret's Church, Thorpe Market, was formed in
1997, initially simply to sing Stainer's "The "Crucifixion" on Good
Friday. The church owns a demountable staging system which allows 40+ singers to perform in tiered ranks in the Chancel.
The choir meets on Thursday evenings from 7.30 - 9.30 p.m. in the
autumn and spring. Numbering in excess of 40 members, choir evenings
are friendly,
informal, and no auditions required! Whilst we have a few experienced
singers, many of our current membership have little previous choral
experience - so do come and give it a try! All music copies are
provided and we always have a "tea break".
Cantamus Community Choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music (www.rscm.com).
There
are usually four concerts each year from the popular choral repertoire.
Recently we have performed Vivaldi's "Gloria" with a selection of
anthems and also Handel's "Messiah" with christmas carols.
Rehearsals
are currently taking place in St. James' Church Southrepps
whilst major repairs are undertaken at St. Margaret's Thorpe Market.
When these are completed we will return to St Margaret's Church, Thorpe
Market.
Rehearsals for the Spring recommence on Thursday 7th January 2010 at 7.30 p.m. at Southrepps. Our rehearsal schedule is Handel's "Samson" (1743) which will be performed on Friday 30th April at 7.30 p.m.
We will be holding our annual workshop (2.30 p.m.) and performance (7.30 p.m.) of Stainer's "The Crucifixion" (1887) on Good Friday 2nd April. Guest singers are always welcome to join us for this one-off occasion; please book your place on 01263 833252.
